In 1965, Loretta Lynn released one of the most amazing covers of the classic gospel hymn “In The Sweet By and By” as part of her album, Hymns.

Written by S. Fillmore Bennett, the song was originally released in 1868 as a Christian hymn. Due to its captivating lyrics about having faith in God, the hymn immediately became a gospel standard that has been included in hymnals to this day.

Due to its soul-touching message and mellow tune, many renowned artists have released their versions of the song. Among them were Johnny Cash in 1975, Willie and Bobbie Nelson in 1986, and of course, Loretta Lynn in 1965.

Loretta Lynn’s Cover of “In the Sweet By and By”

Loretta Lynn’s version, in particular, struck many because of how country her whole cover was like, from how it was delivered to the choice of instrumentals used. Aside from that, Loretta Lynn’s high and flinty voice also polishes the song into becoming one of the best gospel hymns of all time – making it one of Loretta Lynn’s greatest hits.

She is one of the few country artists who knows how to use her voice to spread the message about God. Her brightness, innocence, and straightforwardness made her one of the most successful country singers of her time – eventually becoming the “Queen of Country Music.”

That is why her cover became one of the staple versions churches use nowadays. And even after her passing in 2022 at the age of 90, her legacy still remains through her classic hits like this one.

So if you haven’t checked it out yet, start having faith in God and yourself as you listen to Loretta Lynn’s amazing cover of the hit gospel song “In The Sweet By and By” below.
