In 1968, Loretta Lynn continued to be a force to be reckoned with in country music – never afraid to tackle controversial subjects, whether it’s about motherhood, cheating husbands, or death.

She proved that in her eleventh studio album, Who Says God is Dead, where she offered another collection of inspirational tunes done up with her incomparable styling, such as “I’m Getting Ready To Go.”

The Joy A Person Felt Despite Knowing Of An Impending Death

Written by Loretta Lynn, “I’m Getting Ready To Go” is a reminder of hope in life after death. Even through the tragedies, difficulties, and loss, there’s comfort in fixing our eyes on our heavenly home. After all, Christ rose from the ashes and defeated death just for us to have eternal life.

“I’m a livin’ for the Lord, and I want everybody to know. This old world’s just my dressin’ room, and I’m a gettin’ ready to go. Yeah, I’m a gettin’ ready to go to a place called heaven,” Lynn sings.

Her voice is at its earthy, rich best as she puts her faith on full display, reassuring everyone that death is nothing to fear about. She has truly delivered the joy a person feels despite knowing of impending death as long as the Lord is waiting for her, and the thought of a better life in heaven than on earth.

Unfortunately, there were no singles released from Who Says God is Dead. The initial sales of the record were low, and it only peaked at No. 44 on Billboard’s Hot Country Albums chart. Other Loretta Lynn songs found in the album were “The Old Rugged Cross,” “I Believe,” “In the Garden,” and “Mama, Why?” – which featured her son Ernest Ray Lynn.
