Country singer Randy Travis suffered a crippling stroke from a viral infection in 2013. Known for his distinctive baritone voice, the Grammy-winning singer underwent several operations while in critical condition.

Travis fought back and recovered after six months at the hospital. He received his voice back miraculously — though he still can not speak in full sentences.

Randy Travis, 60, has been inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. He spontaneously broke into a rendition of “Amazing Grace” while standing on the podium during the Medallion ceremony in Nashville, TN.

Nobody was expecting it, and everyone was speechless.

“Randy stared to death in the face, but death was blinking,” his wife, Mary Davis-Travis, told the audience.

“Today, God’s proof of a miracle stands before you.”

Garth Brooks was among the many artists who celebrated inductees that year. He also stood on stage next to Travis while accepting the honor.

Randy Travis is the first country artist whose first album in the first year it was released went platinum.
