“Tammy Wynette Kind of Pain:” Its Inspiration

Apparently, the song was inspired by George Jones’ ex-wife. While the title may initially appear as a lamentation, it also has deeper implications which are quite interesting to explore. One of which is the kind of strength that the female character has which is truly worth emulating among women who may find her story relatable.

McEntire looks up to Tammy Wynette and sees her as the perfect epitome of a strong woman. It’s been known to many how the legendary singer’s life and music were tantamount to heartbreak. That is most probably the reason why she specifically referenced her in her recent release. In fact, the Country Music Hall of Famer attested that the song perfectly fits what she wanted for her die-hard country record. Talking about her single, McEntire couldn’t help but say,

“Wonderful song, wonderful song! It mentions all the song titles of Tammy’s.”

Included on McEntire’s upcoming album Stronger Than the Truth, “Tammy Wynette Kind of Pain” is about a woman who deals with an extreme heartache after her lover left her. The singer explains what kind of pain this woman is having and she associated it with Tammy’s.

“And this ain’t no regular kind of hurt. This is a ‘Tammy Wynette Kind of Pain,’ so you can imagine how this lady [in the song] is hurtin’.”

Additional Info About the Song

The song was co-written by Brandy Clark, Mark Narmore, and Shelley Skidmore. It also made reference to Wynette’s classic hits like “D-I-V-O-R-C-E,” “Stand By Your Man,” and “Golden Ring.” The song will be the fourth single from the album which will drop on April 5. Other songs from the album that were previously released include the album’s title track, “In His Mind,” and “No U in Oklahoma.”
