Zac Brown Band churned out ‘Toes’ with bassist John Driskell Hopkins, Shawn Mullins, and Wyatt Durette. Durrette recalled going to Key West, Florida, with his four friends for a four-day getaway. During the third day, Durrette said to his friend these words: “I’ve got my toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand. Life is good today, life is good today.” Something struck in the songwriter that made him call Brown.

In the song, a man narrates his encounter with “pretty senoritas” and memorable nights. The final verse reveals that after running out of money, he returns home to relax there.
