In 2018, American singer Tori Kelly released a gospel song titled “Never Alone” as part of her album Hiding Place.

The song instantly became one of Tori Kelly’s greatest hits, landing at no. 1 on the US Hot Gospel Songs (Billboard), no. 14 on the US Christian Songs (Billboard), and no. 25 on the US Adult R&B Songs (Billboard).

Aside from that, it also gave Tori her first Grammy Award win for the Best Gospel Performance/Song nomination during the Grammy Awards 2019. It was also the first time that Tori decided to collaborate with a Gospel star, Kirk Franklin.

But that was not the only reason why “Never Alone” was a song so close to Tori’s heart. The story behind the making of the song was something Tori keeps dearly, so as we find out the meaning behind the song, we’ll finally understand what made this one of Tori Kelly’s greatest hits.

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin, the song is simply about hope and assurance that God will always be by our side when things can feel fleeting.

It is a powerful anthem of faith that assures us of God’s comforting presence in our everyday lives. No matter what circumstances we face, no matter how troubled our souls can be, the Holy Spirit will always be there to guide us.

As beautiful as this song is, the story behind it is also magical. In an interview, Tori revealed the story of how the song came about. According to her, during her first writing session with Kirk for the album, she was a bit anxious since it was her first time writing a song about God, and she doubted if she could do it.

In addition, she was living in a new city and felt a bit lonely as she missed her friends and family. At that very moment, an idea snapped into her head. As a Christian woman, she remembered that she was never alone since God was always by her side.

At that moment, Tori immediately felt God’s presence and peace – which resulted in the gospel song everyone has grown to love today.

So, if you find yourself in trouble, always remember what Tori Kelly said in her song “Never Alone.” You can watch her full performance below.
