It seems that Mo Pitney has stayed true to his words and kept traditional country music relevant with his new song, “Duct Tape and Jesus.”

American country singer Morgan Daniel Pitney, better known as Mo Pitney, became interested in country music at a young age and started honing his musical skills by singing bluegrass songs, eventually crossing over to country music.

Since his debut in 2014, Mo Pitney has released many hit country songs like “Country,” “Boy & a Girl Thing,” and “Ain’t Bad for a Good Ol’ Boy.” But aside from those, our rising country superstar also released a gospel song of his own. And guess what, the song instantly became one of Mo Pitney’s greatest hits.

However, compared to other country gospel songs, Mo Pitney’s “Duct Tape and Jesus” is undeniably impactful in many ways possible, not just to listeners but to Mo Pitney himself.

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Mo Pitney, the song simply talks about how a man surrenders everything in the hands of Jesus. It is a type of song that reminds us to fix what we can and leave those beyond our control to Jesus.

Although some people may think this is just another project for Mo, that does not seem to be the case at all. In 2012, Albuquerque resident Jay Johnson said his daughter spotted an image of Jesus on a piece of duct tape, which shocked their whole family. Since then, he has kept hold of this duct tape and used it as his strength in times of darkness.

This story inspired Mo Pitney hence the song, “Duct Tape and Jesus.”

Some may not be aware, but Mo Pitney did struggle with his faith despite never doubting he was a Christian at the age of 22. It wasn’t until he read Psalm 107 that things changed. He said, “I know if God could take my heart of stone and turn it into a heart that beats for Him, He can redeem anyone.”

Maybe this is why he couldn’t help but use this miraculous story to spread the message of how powerful God really is. As he sang the song at WDRM 102.1, Mo says he tells people that “50% of the song is 100% true.

So, if you are struggling to connect with God, try listening to Mo Pitney’s song “Duct Tape and Jesus,” which may shed some light on you.
