Divided into three unique parts – Hallelujah, Jubilee, and Joyful Noise – Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? tackles eight new songs and presents them in a style appropriate to those categories. Renditions in Hallelujah features Childers and his band, The Food Stamps, playing live in the studio during a two-day recording session. Meanwhile, Childers had to stretch his limbs in Jubilee, blending in backing vocals, strings, horns, and other instruments to his compositions.

As for the Joyful Noise additions, Childers is not revealing the versions of the song and keeping the aspect a secret until the project’s full Telease.

Inspired By His Own Experiences

Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? is Tyler Childers‘ first project after two years since the release of Long Violent History in 2020. The album, which central themes are inexplicable violence and racial injustice, peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Since then, fans have patiently waited, and it’s been worth it.

Childers said, Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? is a collection that came together out of his reflections growing up as a Baptist and processing life experiences that formed him through the years.

“Working with the same song three different ways is a nod to my raising, growing up in a church that believes in the Holy Trinity,” the singer said.

Tune in below to watch the official music video for the Jubilee version of “Angel Band.”
