In 2005, country singer Randy Travis released one of the most soul-touching renditions of the classic gospel song “Are You Washed In The Blood” as part of his album Glory Train: Songs of Faith, Worship, and Praise.

Originally released in 1878, the song was initially written as a Christian hymn by Elisha Hoffman. Published as part of the book “Spiritual Songs for Gospel Meetings and the Sunday School,” the hymn was eventually converted to a song for the Salvation Army during that time.

Over the years, “Are You Washed In The Blood” unexpectedly became one of the most popular gospel songs of all time. Many known artists, such as Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, and Randy Travis, have released their versions of the song.

Of course, as country singers, these artists have incorporated their styles into their versions. Let’s find out what made his version, in particular, different from the other singers who previously had their versions released before him and why it became one of Randy Travis’ greatest hits.

Randy Travis’s Soul-touching Rendition

In 2005, Randy Travis surprised his fans when he released one of the most soul-touching renditions of the classic gospel song “Are You Washed In The Blood.”

Compared to the other versions, his rendition sounded more old-school, and he used traditional country instruments throughout his cover. His voice was also worth noting, as it had that deep nasal whine sound like how the old country legends of the 50s and 60s usually sang—giving his version that extra edge among traditional country listeners.

So if you are looking for the perfect song to add to your playlist of “Great Gospel Songs of All Time,” listen to Randy Travis’s version of “Are You Washed In The Blood.”
