Home Free Showcased Their Patriotic Side With A Stunning Rendition of “God Bless the USA”

In 2016, just in time for the Fourth of July, country a cappella group Home Free took the chance to celebrate the courageous military men and women with a beautiful rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” and it’s a perfect showcase of each individual member’s talents.

Home Free‘s delightful version was arranged by none other than the founding member Chris Rupp wherein tenor vocalist Austin Brown took the lead as he sang most of the solo parts while the other members offered stunning harmonies. Meanwhile, vocal percussionist Adam Rupp provided the more “instrumental” sounds. At some part of the arrangement, he effortlessly replicated a snare drum’s pounding sound.

And just like the videos for other Home Free songs, the performance was filmed at sunset in front of Mount Rushmore. Is there any more patriotic than that? The five talented artists indeed carried through a performance as great and mighty as the mountains behind them.

One Of The Most Cherished Patriotic Tunes Of All Time

“God Bless the USA” was written by Lee Greenwood and was originally released in 1984 off his album You’ve Got a Good Love Comin’. Since then, it’s been considered Greenwood’s signature song and one of the most cherished patriotic anthems of all time. It continues to give chills and tears to the eyes of anyone listening to it across the country.

In a more recent interview, Home Free said that it’s actually the very first song they’ve arranged while they were still starting. For years, they would end every show with “God Bless the USA” – and every time they did, the crowd would stand in appreciation.

“We’ve been singing this song as long as Home Free has been in existence,” says Austin Brown.
