Trisha Yearwood Celebrates Her 20th Year as a Grand Ole Opry Member

In 1999, Porter Wagoner inducted Trisha Yearwood at the Grand Ole Opry with the uplifting words,

“One of the greatest singers of our time. I would rate her with Patsy Cline.”

This year marks the twentieth year of her induction into the Opry. Yearwood cited that her inspiration was Patsy Cline, one of country music’s greatest female singers. Therefore, she began the show by performing Cline’s “Sweet Dreams.” This was the song she also performed when she was first inducted.

She was also greeted with warm messages from her friends. Emmylou Harris introduced Yearwood with some emotional sweet words.

“From the moment we first heard that stunning voice and saw that beautiful smile, we fell in love with Trisha Yearwood…”

In addition, a video of different artists congratulating Yearwood was also shown during her show. Her husband, Garth Brooks, was seen at the end of the video.

Other artists who Yearwood performed with were Ricky Skaggs and Brooks. Yearwood ended her celebration with the song “She’s in Love with the Boy.” This was the song Wagoner often asked Yearwood to perform whenever she’s in the Opry.

“I’m gonna do “She’s in Love With the Boy” tonight because every time I would do the Opry, if I didn’t plan to sing “She’s in Love With the Boy,” he would come out and say, ‘Sing the one that brung ya!’ That was Porter’s thing.”
