Willie Nelson and sons Lukas and Micah are waiting out the coronavirus pandemic at their Luck Ranch in Spicewood, Texas. And while quarantining, the three took on the responsibility of keeping us entertained by gracing us with plenty of content during this frantic time.

Lukas has shared videos of himself, Micah, and his legendary father, which they are calling “Quarantunes Evening Sessions.” And for their latest entry? It’s the spine-tingling performance of “Set Me Down On A Cloud.”

The beautiful song with enchanting lyrics is from 2017 self-titled “Lukas Nelson & Promise. “Set Me Down on a Cloud,” was actually inspired by a fan request who went through a family tragedy.

“It’s a sad story actually,” Lukas revealed of the inspiration behind the song. “This lady, her and her husband accidentally somehow ran over and killed their four-year-old daughter. They came to one of my shows, and they said it was the first time they were able to feel happy since that occurrence, and they asked me to write a song about it.”

The younger Nelson continued: “I was very honored to be able to write about that situation and try and capture it in the art. I felt like a spirit was guiding me.”

The Apple Does Not Fall Far From The Tree

Willie Nelson’s children prove that talent runs in the blood. Before the national emergency caused everyone to put plans on hold, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real had a lot of touring lined up behind their new album Naked Garden. This includes Luck Reunion, a huge festival held at his dad Willie Nelson’s ranch that was supposed to take place last March.

Luckily, Lukas decided to revive it through a free live stream. This will include Willie and Micah Nelson, as well as members of his band Promise of the Real. They’re calling it “Quarantunes Evening Sessions.”

Lukas actually thought of the word Quarantunes in the middle of his meditation. “I had to stop my meditation. I laughed so hard. I wrote it down, and then I thought, oh, that’s going to be great, so that’s what I started doing.”

The evening sessions started mid-March. The first entry was Nelson’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” spreading some much-needed spiritual peace to a world almost agitated with confusion and fear.

Just a few days later, Lukas surprised us all when he performed a song in Italian. This is to pay tribute to his Italian heritage and in support of all Italians facing the trials amid the coronavirus.

Another most highlighted part of the “Quarantunes Evening Sessions” was when Willie Nelson joined his sons Lukas and Micah for a powerful performance of “Turn Off The News,” a song about finding the good in a dark time. It’s the perfect message for our current crisis, with lyrics like “I just want to love you while I can/All these other thoughts have me confused/I don’t need to try and understand/Maybe I’ll get up, turn off the news.”

The family has also jammed with Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s “Just Outside of Austin.” “Yeah, I love this song,” Willie Nelson said as Lukas started into the tune, and Micah provided some lead licks on his acoustic.

“My dad and Micah and I are going to start doing a lot more and just posting it on social media. Hopefully, we’ll be able to just make this quarantine sort of fun, and keep everybody posted on his condition, and ours,” Lukas Nelson said. We couldn’t wait for more collaborations from this talented family.
