Whenever we think of country music, its history, and its richness, we will surely come across the names of some country music greats. Willie Nelson is just one of the few artists who has surpassed every era of country music. At 85, he is going stronger and his voice is getting richer. On the other hand, George Strait, who is two decades later, is one of the most influential artists of all time. Also, he is one of the few artists who still cling to the true country music sound. Hence, he is popularly dubbed the “King of Country” or simply “King George.”

These two artists have graced the country music scene with their amazing talents. Both have produced and released chart-topping hits and albums. Also, they have performed with fellow legends, and have helped budding artists in their careers. However, one thing is still not happening which their fans have been wanting. Many want the “Red Headed Stranger” and the “King of Country” on one the same stage.

King George Shares the Same Stage with Nelson

For decades of being in the same career, Strait and Nelson have never had the chance to be together on one stage. With their busy schedules, tours, and shows, these two superstars have been wandering in different galaxies. Well, that was a story of the past now.

On Saturday night, Jan. 12, the most awaited time has finally come. Strait joined Nelson at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, to honor the latter. It was an event titled Willie: Life & Songs of An American Outlaw. This was the very first time when the two artists have collaborated for a duet.

This epic performance was just one of the many performances that night. The event brought together over a dozen of music’s greatest stars to pay tribute to the one and only Willie Nelson.

However, it was when Nelson surprised the crowd when he invited Strait on stage to sing with him. Strait was obviously head over heels as he sets foot on stage. He can’t help but to smile while performing with the legend.

The two sang “Sing One With Willie,” a tune written just for the special occasion. In the song, Strait admits that he has had a colorful career, but something was missing. He says that he, as the song goes, “ain’t never got to sing one with Willie.”

He then continues and brings the fact that while Willie has sung with everyone like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Julio Iglesias, King George is anxious for his turn.

On the other hand, Willie takes his turn of the song and expressed his excitement over finally getting to “sing one with Strait.” Overall, it was an exquisite duet seeing the two legends perform together as if it were two stars colliding and forming a magnificent supernova.

The performance of the two artists was recorded and is slated to be aired as part of a major broadcast special on A&E Network in 2019.

Check out their amazing collaboration here and then scroll down to see their second duet singing “Good Hearted Woman:”
