Lainey Wilson has already carved out her place in country music with a truckload of awards and a voice soaked in diesel and heartbreak, but now she’s trading her honky-tonk boots for a film script. According to Variety, the “Heart Like a Truck” hitmaker is officially making her feature film debut in the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel Reminders of Him.

This isn’t just a walk-on role or some background cameo. Wilson joins a stacked cast that includes Maika Monroe, Lauren Graham, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Bradley Whitford, and Nicholas Duvernay. For a first major film gig, that’s a heavy-hitting crew to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with. The film, produced by Universal Pictures, is scheduled to hit theaters on February 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine’s Day — and from the sound of it, they’re aiming straight for the heart.
If the name Colleen Hoover rings a bell, it should. The author has basically become the queen of emotionally raw storytelling, and Reminders of Him is one of her most gut-wrenching hits. The film will follow Kenna Rowan (played by Monroe), a woman returning home after five years in prison, hoping to reunite with the daughter she’s never met. Standing in her way is everyone in town except for one unexpected ally, a local bartender played by Withers. That’s where the healing — and all the messy emotional fallout — begins.

While Wilson’s role hasn’t been officially revealed yet, the choice to bring her on board makes all kinds of sense. She’s not just some crossover experiment. She’s already dipped her boots into the acting world with her recurring role as Abby on Yellowstone, a character creator Taylor Sheridan wrote specifically for her. That alone proves she knows how to step into character without losing her own voice.
And let’s be honest, Wilson already knows how to deliver emotion that stings. Just listen to Bell Bottom Country or her Grammy-nominated ballads. Whether she’s singing about heartbreak, home, or holding on, she makes you believe every word. That kind of emotional grounding is exactly what a Colleen Hoover story needs.
There’s also something deeply fitting about Wilson showing up in a film centered around second chances, forgiveness, and family. These are themes she’s been singing about since day one. From small-town grit to chasing big dreams, she’s lived out her lyrics on stage, and now she’s carrying them to the silver screen.
Wilson’s entry into film doesn’t feel like some publicity stunt or side hustle. It feels earned. Like everything else she’s done, this next step in her career is rooted in authenticity. She isn’t chasing trends. She’s just expanding the story — her story — in a way that keeps getting more compelling with every turn.
And come 2026, when Reminders of Him hits theaters, there’s a good chance folks who walked in expecting a pop-style movie soundtrack will walk out remembering the name Lainey Wilson for a whole different reason.
