Chris Stapleton won the Male Artist of the Year award at the 60th ACM Awards, marking yet another major win in his already storied career. Presented by country legend Clint Black, the category was one of the night’s most stacked, with nominees including Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, and Morgan Wallen.
Stepping onstage to a standing ovation, Stapleton kept his acceptance speech humble and focused on gratitude.
“Wow,” he said. “So many guys in this category that are so deserving and great artists, and I’m happy just to be hanging out in the room still.”
Chris Stapleton went on to thank the people behind the scenes who make his career possible, giving a nod to the crew members who keep things moving behind the curtain. He also shared heartfelt appreciation for his wife, Morgan, who he credited for keeping him grounded, as well as his children watching from home.
The moment turned personal as Stapleton dedicated the award to Ben Vaughn, the influential music executive and friend who passed away earlier this year.
“I’m thinking a lot tonight about my friend Ben Vaughn, who we lost this year,” he said. “So I’m gonna send this one out to Ben. Thank you, Ben. Thank y’all.”
The Male Artist of the Year category has always been one of the most competitive at the ACMs, and this year was no different. Each nominee has had a huge impact on the genre over the past year. Luke Combs continued his stadium takeover with one of the biggest tours of 2024. Cody Johnson scored multiple nominations across the board and recently revealed he and his wife, Brandi, are expecting their third child. Jelly Roll brought a new level of vulnerability to the genre, while Morgan Wallen remained a commercial powerhouse.
Still, it was Stapleton’s name that was called in the end, and few could argue with the choice. His soulful voice, unmatched consistency, and sheer artistry continue to earn respect across all corners of the industry. This win solidifies his status as one of country music’s most respected figures, not just for his talent but also for his character.
