For decades, Alan Jackson has been the man behind some of the most beloved country hits of all time, but last weekend, he was just “Grandaddy” to two tiny VIPs in the crowd.
On April 26, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, during one of the final stops of his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour, Jackson got to share the stage with a new generation of fans: his grandsons, 2-year-old Jackson Alvie Bradshaw and 10-month-old Wesley Alan Smith. For the first time, his grandkids were in the crowd to see what all the fuss had been about for the past 40 years.
It was a full-circle moment for a man who’s spent most of his life on the road, singing about family, love, and small-town values. And this time, the songs hit even closer to home.
Jackson Alvie is the son of Alexandra Jackson Bradshaw, Alan and Denise’s middle daughter, while baby Wesley belongs to Mattie Jackson Smith, their oldest. Though neither kid is old enough to belt out “Chattahoochee,” both are soaked at the moment from their seats, complete with baby headphones and wide eyes. And yes, they made the big screen.
Mattie shared the moment on Instagram with a heartfelt post, writing:
“There’s no telling how many shows I’ve been at in my life, but my goodness was this one special for all of us. Wesley’s too young to get it, of course, but to have pictures and videos and memories of their Grandaddy perform is priceless to say the least.”
The moment wasn’t just a milestone for the kids. It was clearly one for the whole family. Photos show a tight-knit group gathered around Alan’s tour bus: Mattie and Alexandra with their husbands, their sons, Denise Jackson, and the country legend himself. It wasn’t red carpets or award shows. It was just family, making memories.
The carousel of images Mattie posted is everything you’d want it to be. One snapshot shows little Wesley suited up with his hearing protection like a true concert pro. But the last photo is the kind that sticks with you. A candid, stadium-screen shot of Alexandra, Jackson, Wesley, and Mattie waving from the stands caught mid-smile and beaming with pride.
Appropriately, the montage of photos is set to Jackson’s 1996 hit “Little Bitty,” a song that’s always felt like a nod to the simpler things. And honestly, what could be more “little bitty” and more meaningful than this?
With just a couple more tour stops left, including a performance at the 2025 ACM Awards on May 8 and his final show in Milwaukee on May 17, Alan Jackson is winding down his live performance era. But he’s doing it surrounded by the people who know him best.
He’s not just leaving a legacy behind in platinum records and CMA trophies. He’s handing it off, one bedtime story and baby-side stage show at a time.
Because to the rest of us, Alan Jackson might be a legend. But to Jackson Alvie and Wesley, he’ll always just be Grandaddy — the guy who once lit up a stage and still makes a stadium feel like home.
