Thomas Rhett songs are the product of growing up being surrounded by music. His father, Rhett Akins, is a famous country music singer-songwriter with several hit songs under his belt.

With his father being an influential figure in the music scene, it was no longer a surprise when Rhett later went on to pursue a career in music himself. And with his easy charm and heartwarming voice, it was quick for him to win the hearts of country fans everywhere – making a name for himself over the last years.

Here are some songs that cemented Thomas Rhett’s place as one of the biggest country singers of the era.

1. “Die a Happy Man”

From: Tangled Up (2015)

“Die A Happy Man” is one of the most successful songs in 2015. It conquered the top spot of the Billboard Country Airplay, Hot Country Songs, and Country Digital Songs charts. It also peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest-charting single on that chart. But not only that it broke a lot of records, but it also won Rhett more than a few awards.

The romantic ballad is actually the first song that Rhett has wholly written for his wife Lauren, who he’s known since first grade.

2. “Crash and Burn”

From: Tangled Up

“Crash And Burn” served as a fantastic lead-off single for Rhett’s second studio album as it reached No. 1 on Billboard Country Airplay while No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Written by Jesse Frasure and Chris Stapleton, the heartbreaking song quickly got Rhett’s approval.  Though the singer admits that it is one of the most vocally challenging tracks he ever recorded, he loved the irony of how happy the song sounded, even if its lyrics were about a man who loses out in love.

3. “T-Shirt”

From: Tangled Up (2015)

The story behind how he cut this song shows how supportive Thomas Rhett’s family is, especially his father.

Thomas Rhett wanted to cut “T-Shirt” on his first album; however, it was on hold for Tim McGraw at the time.

Rhett’s father then recalled how disappointed his son was with the situation. He said that Rhett – being the “biggest worrier on Earth” – was so disheartened. When he could no longer stand seeing his son worry, he offered a prayer for Rhett to have some peace. Surprisingly, the very next day, they were informed that McGraw didn’t cut the song and that Rhett could keep it.

Rhett then released the groove-filled track as the third single from his second studio album, and it became his sixth consecutive No. 1 country hit.

4. “Make Me Wanna”

From: It Goes Like This (2013)

This breezy song had a little bit of the whole thing – such as The Bee Gees’ pop stylings, a touch of Barry White, as well as a dash of some of Conway Twitty’s later years. The arrangement of “Make Me Wanna” was nothing short of remarkable and impressive.

5. “It Goes Like This”

From: It Goes Like This (2013)

Definitely one of Thomas Rhett’s greatest hits, “It Goes Like This” represents his first journey atop the country charts. In addition to that, the song has a special place in Rhett’s heart – after all, one of its writers was none other than his father.

6. “Get Me Some of That”

From: It Goes Like This (2013)

Though it’s one of his earlier songs, it absolutely holds up, showing the character and talent fans appreciate and love today. Written by his father Rhett Akins, Michael Carter, and fellow country star Cole Swindell, the lighthearted song is the perfect mood-lifter for any occasion.

7. “Playing with Fire” (Feat. Jordin Sparks)

From: Tangled Up (2015)

Rhett teamed up with Jordin Sparks for this powerful ballad that tells the tale of two people and the emotional journey within their on-again-off-again relationship. Even though it’s from two different perspectives, it has captured the same sentiment of returning to the other person, despite knowing that it’s not the best thing to do.

8. “Star of the Show”

From: Tangled Up

Thomas Rhett wrote “Star of the Show” with his father Rhett Akins with his wife Lauren in mind, right after he got married in 2012. The song was actually inspired by how other men look at Lauren whenever they go out in public.

9. “I Feel Good”

From: Tangled Up (2015)

Rhett celebrates the weekend with this funky track. “If you’re not smiling and laughing and feeling good through that song, I don’t know what makes you happy,” he said.

10. “Anthem”

From: Tangled Up (2015)

Even though “Anthem” was not released as a single, it’s the party song that has all the elements of a catchy country track that gets you moving.

11. “Remember You Young”

From: Center Point Road (2019)

This nostalgic song – which cherishes the younger days of one’s life – will absolutely strike the kind of emotional chord that is difficult to overlook.

12. “Look What God Gave Her”

From: Center Point Road (2019)

“Look What God Gave Her” is a blissful love song about his wife finds Rhett singing about all the things he loves about his wife Lauren and thanking God for creating her the way she is.

13. “Life Changes”

From: Life Changes (2017)

Rhett admitted that the song is highly personal to him, where he gave fans a thorough look into his real life, singing about all the life changes he has gone through.

14. “Marry Me”

From: Life Changes (2017)

Rhett finds himself putting his suit on in “Marry Me,” only to be heading to the wedding of the woman he loves who’s marrying another man.

15. “Craving You” (featuring Maren Morris)

From: Life Changes (2017)

When Rhett joined forces with Maren Morris for “Craving You,” it ultimately became the lead single from his third album; at the same time, it turned out to be a chart-topping hit. But did you know it was almost never recorded at all?

In fact, it might not have seen the light of day if it wasn’t for songwriters Dave Barnes and Julian Bunetta, who gave Rhett the little extra push he needed to connect with the song.

Rhett recalled that though he liked the song the first time he heard it, he didn’t think of recording it – partly because he was not part of its writing process that he couldn’t fully attach himself to the song. Luckily, Julian was very persistent that Rhett decided to cut it, and it came out incredible.
