Even country queens have pet peeves, and Trisha Yearwood is finally sharing hers with a laugh.

Back in 2021, the powerhouse behind timeless hits like “She’s in Love with the Boy” and the wildly successful Trisha’s Southern Kitchen opened up during a rapid-fire interview on TODAY that turned from charming to downright hilarious. After answering questions about her quirky snack habits (peanut butter and sharp cheddar, anyone?) and her Thanksgiving meal prep strategies, Yearwood let fans in on one thing she wishes folks would just stop asking her already. And the question is not what you’d expect.

“Where’s Garth?”

Yes, that is the one she hears the most. As much as she adores her husband, country titan Garth Brooks, the Grammy-winning icon has heard that question so many times during her solo shows and public appearances that she could write a book on all the clever comebacks she has used to keep it light. From joking that Garth was left in the car because she wouldn’t let him come in, to saying someone had to stay home and do the laundry, Yearwood always kept her sense of humor intact. But it wore on her in the early days.

“When we first got married, every single time I was on stage, someone would yell out, ‘Where’s Garth?’” she recalled. “And I’m doing a concert, you know, and so I got really creative.” At one point, she even flat-out told fans, “He’s not here. You just get me. So, sorry!”

Over time, though, she made peace with the question. These days, she takes it in stride, even poking fun at it. And there is a bit of sweet irony in the way it has flipped on its head. Now that Yearwood has built her own powerhouse brand in music, cookbooks, and television, people are just as likely to turn to Garth and ask, “Where’s Trisha?”

That mutual admiration between the two is one of the reasons they remain one of country music’s most enduring couples. Married since 2005, their bond began way back in 1987 when they met while cutting demo tracks in Nashville. Brooks once promised Yearwood she could open for him if he ever made it big. True to his word, when the opportunity came, he brought her along for the ride. Their connection, both professionally and personally, has only deepened over the years.

Their love has always had room for banter and genuine support. In a 2024 interview, Brooks gushed about his wife, saying, “I’m lucky to know her as an artist, I’m lucky to know her as a husband, and really lucky to know her as my best friend.” Yearwood’s goofball charm and no-nonsense talent have made her more than just “Garth’s wife” to fans. She is a country music staple, a TV personality, and a best-selling author, all wrapped into one.

As for that awkward question? Well, she does not hate it, but it sure has followed her like a shadow. And thanks to her good-natured spirit, she has turned it into another reason fans adore her. Because whether or not Garth is in the building, Trisha Yearwood knows exactly how to steal the spotlight on her own.
