Scotty McCreery is a product of great influence of classic country music. He lists Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Conway Twitty as his classic country music influence while at the same time citing Elvis Presley as his greatest influence. Mapping his career all goes back to that one historical moment for the young Scotty McCreery who received three yeses during his famed audition at the season 10 of American Idol where he impressed Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson.

Scotty McCreery, American Idol Audition

Braving an audition that would be televised in all states of America and possibly all corners of the world is not a joke that anyone could just crack without warning. It’s a life decision. One that is hard enough that if you don’t think of it that could lead to a possible mistake that would either become something you’ll laugh at during family dinners or something that’ll haunt you whenever you browse videos on Youtube.

Luckily, there are some like Scotty McCreery who dared to defy what people are saying to him. This North Carolina native decided to audition singing Josh Turner’s ‘Your Man’ which according to Jennifer Lopez, ‘it made her smile.’ When Steven Tyler wanted to test drive Scotty McCreery’s vocal prowess to hit higher notes, Scotty then tried to impress the Aerosmith singer with his acapella rendition of Travis Tritt’s ‘Put Some Drive in Your Country.’

This audition tape is a call for taking risks that no matter how impossible the dream is, striving to achieve it is never old fashion.

Your Man Lyrics

Baby lock the door and turn the lights down low
Put some music on that’s soft and slow
Baby we ain’t got no place to go
I hope you understand

I’ve been thinking ’bout this all day long
Never felt a feeling quite this strong
I can’t believe how much it turns me on
Just to be your man

There’s no hurry
Don’t you worry
We can take our time
Come a little closer
Lets go over
What I had in mind

Baby lock the door and turn the lights down low
Put some music on that’s soft and slow
Baby we ain’t got no place to go
I hope you understand

I’ve been thinking ’bout this all day long
Never felt a feeling quite this strong
I can’t believe how much it turns me on
Just to be your man
