Country music star John Michael Montgomery took to social media to let his fans know that he “had a serious accident on the way to a concert in North Carolina” that broke his ribs and caused him some cuts.
On Friday (September 10), the “I Love the Way You Love Me” singer was traveling south of Jellico on Interstate 75 when his tour bus – a 2001 Prevost Featherlite – went off the road, hit an embankment, and overturned.
Still, Montgomery assured fans that he’s doing well but will need to take some time over the next couple of weeks to recover before he goes back touring again. “I am grateful to the medics and highway patrol for their quick response to this difficult situation. Thanks to everyone for their concerns,” the singer wrote.
Two more people were injured during the accident and are now recovering from their injuries. Marc Wood, who is believed to have been driving the bus, sustained facial and head injuries. Meanwhile, William Salyer received stitches in his leg. He was the only one not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Montgomery’s upcoming tour dates include a now removed appearance on September 17 at New Braunfels, Texas. His next scheduled concert will be on September 24 at Shipshewana, Indiana. He recently concluded a concert at the Kentucky State Fair last August 24, where he was joined by his son Walker Montgomery for a riveting duet of the fan favorite, “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).”
