Well, it wouldn’t be a week in country music without Gavin Adcock stirring the pot again.
This time, the “Damn Good Cowboy” singer decided to take aim at Zach Bryan, who had just spoken out about the growing concern over artificial intelligence in songwriting. While most folks in the industry have been quick to shut the door on AI-generated tunes, Bryan added a sharp edge to the conversation.
In an Instagram post that lasted barely an hour, he pointed out the irony of singers who don’t write their own songs being the loudest critics of AI. He said that people who don’t write their own songs and complain about AI writing songs are like a guy in finance complaining about farmers switching from plow horses to tractors. He followed it up with a reminder that if a machine is writing more heartfelt lyrics than you are, maybe the problem is not the technology.
Naturally, that didn’t sit well with Adcock, who seems to have a permanent chip on his shoulder when it comes to Bryan. Never one to pass up a moment to jump into the ring, Gavin fired back on X, saying, “If all your songs sound the same. You either should be open to writing with other people or you’ve been using AI to write your lyrics the whole him.”

Besides the obvious typo that killed any punch that post had, it read more like an aimless dig than a real response. And sure, Zach Bryan’s music may lean into a familiar style, but there is no denying he writes from a place most songwriters only dream of reaching. Whether it is heartbreak, hope, or quiet rage, he bleeds it out line by line. That is why he has a fanbase that would follow him into a dust storm with no water and still say thank you.
Adcock’s jab felt less like a thoughtful opinion and more like a tired routine. He has taken shots at Charley Crockett, Benjamin Tod, and now Bryan again, all while insisting he is just sharing how he feels. The trouble is, those feelings always seem to go in one direction. And when you punch upward every time, it starts to look less like honest critique and more like a reach for relevance.

Even Gavin’s own fans were quick to call him out on it. One told him that he should probably sit this one out, brother. Another asked if he had Zach’s push notifications turned on since he managed to fire off a tweet just minutes after Bryan’s post went live. And one guy flat-out said what a lot of people were thinking, that this is actually so d𝐮mb it’s amusing.
Here’s the thing. Nobody is saying Gavin Adcock can’t speak his mind. Country music has always had room for outlaws and loudmouths. But there is a difference between calling out hypocrisy and just trying to pick a fight. Right now, it looks like Gavin is swinging at ghosts while everyone else is trying to build something real.
Zach Bryan may delete tweets and ruffle feathers, but the man writes his truth. And when he steps on stage, he sells out arenas with fans who sing back every word he penned himself. If that sounds like every other song to Gavin, then maybe he is not really listening.
