Dwight Yoakam and wife Emily Joyce kept their decade-long relationship under wraps until they announced their union last May 2020. Though there were a few hints as the couple has been seen gracing the red carpet of Grammys multiple times and even stealing everyone’s attention. And last year, the couple also welcomed their son Dalton!

So, let’s dig a bit into their story and find out how it all started.

First Chapter: A Series of Failed Relationships

Dwight Yoakam, 64, has been known for his signature hat and pioneering style of country music, launching him from a star to country’s biggest influences. But aside from having a well-decorated music career, Yoakam is also a critically-acclaimed actor starring in award-winning films.

Despite his success in both music and film, Yoakam remained unlucky in his love life. Over the years, he dated a few high-profile women but left with a string of failed relationships.

Back in 1992, he was linked with Sharon Stone, and the pair enjoyed a sweet time together before they parted ways. After Stone, Yoakam dated Dumb and Dumber actress Karen Duffy, but their relationship only lasted for a year. Then in 1999, he got linked with actress Bridget Fonda, but they called it quits in 2002. There had also been rumors of his short-lived relationship with Wynonna Judd, but the two remained mum, and then the rumors quickly cooled down after.

And then in 2013, Dwight Yoakam made his first public appearance with English actress Emily Joyce. The pair did not make any official announcements regarding their relationship, but it looked like they were definitely in love. And according to sources, the pair met in 2010 at a live concert. And then in January 2014, Dwight attended Warner Music Group’s annual Grammy celebration with Emily at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California. After that, Emily made a staple appearance on Dwight’s red carpet.

Who is Dwight Yoakam’s wife, Emily Joyce?

Emily Joyce was born in 1984 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She reportedly attended the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland, and then enrolled at B.F.A. Rhode Island School of Design, where she finished a degree in graphic design. Later on, she practiced photography and made it her professional career.

Emily is now a successful entrepreneur who owns her own photography business. Of course, her most favorite subject is her now-husband, and most of her pictures of him have been shared by Yoakam on his social media pages. And while she has her own Instagram, she has yet to post a photo.

Aside from that, she also photographs all of the guests like Post Malone, Billy Bob Thornton (to name a few) who come in Yoakam’s SiriusXM channel Dwight Yoakam and the Bakersfield.

Second Chapter: Love in the Time of a Pandemic

The couple was engaged in 2016 and four years later, they exchanged their vows. The intimate ceremony was held in St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica with less than ten attendees who were all seated six feet apart following social-distancing requirements. In a time of uncertainty, the couple still chose to have their happy moment. After all, it was a culmination of a love that endured and championed through a decade.

Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce married in March 2020, just before the lockdown due to the pandemic happened, but they only announced it in May. According to a statement, the belated announcement was withheld out of respect to the current situation and the many people affected by the health crisis.

Third Chapter: Dwight Yoakam is finally a dad!

Just months after their wedding, the couple announced that they welcomed their first son. Dalton Loren was born on August 16, 2020 at 9:19 in the morning, and his arrival was welcomed with a caption reference from one of Dwight Yoakam hits titled “Waterfall” written for his wife Emily, which said, “Babies get born even in a… Pandemic lock down…”

Aside from the news, Dwight Yoakam also shared two photos of the happy couple. The first one featured Emily in a white dress showing off her baby bump and the second one showed Dwight caressing Emily’s bump.

Ever since Dalton’s birth, Dwight Yoakam and wife Emily Joyce have been tight-lipped about their family. Although that doesn’t come as a surprise, considering they also kept their 10-year relationship under wraps and revealed it only when they got married.
