Penned by the group’s lead vocalist and songwriter Don Reid, The Statler Brothers’ “I’ll Go To My Grave Loving You” has wonderfully portrayed how deep a man’s love can be.

The country ballad was based upon the song of Don’s brother and fellow lead singer Harold Reid, titled “He Went to the Cross Loving You.” It sings about how a man could love someone so much until his very last breath. He’s more than willing to do everything just to take the place of her new lover and show to her every day what a man really is.

It was included in their 1975 best-of compilation album, called The Best of the Statler Brothers – which contains a remake of the quartet’s breakout singles.

The middle of the 1970s was definitely a busy time for The Statler Brothers. It was the year that the easy-listening country group from Staunton, Virginia – who began building their reputation through regular appearances on The Johnny Cash Show – has become giants of the traditional country music scene. Their already exceptional music catalog kept on expanding to no end since their first country singles chart entry in 1965.

That helped “I’ll Go To My Grave Loving You” to have a steady climb on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, peaking at No. 3. It even crossed over to the pop chart, reaching No. 93 on Billboard Hot 100, and enjoyed bigger success in Canada, where it landed at the top spot of Canadian RPM Country Tracks.
