Kellie Pickler is locked in a heated legal dispute with her late husband Kyle Jacobs‘ parents, who are now asking a judge to hold her in contempt of court. The battle stems from a disagreement over items belonging to Jacobs’ estate, with both sides making conflicting claims about what belongs to whom.

Jacobs, a respected Nashville songwriter, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 2023 at the age of 49. Following his tragic passing, Pickler declined to serve as administrator of his estate, leaving his parents, Sharon and Reed Jacobs, to step into the role. The two sides are at odds over personal items, including Jacobs’ firearms, musical instruments, and sentimental possessions.

A Dispute Over Estate Property

According to In Touch, Jacobs’ parents claim that Kellie Pickler has failed to turn over estate property despite a court subpoena issued in April 2024. They argue that she is withholding items that “indisputably” belong to the estate, with a particular focus on Jacobs’ extensive gun collection.

Court documents reportedly state:

“Despite this court’s subpoena, and [Kellie’s] own admission that she has failed to relinquish possession of estate property… she is withholding estate property.”

Pickler, 38, has pushed back against these claims, arguing in her own legal filing that Jacobs’ parents entered her home and took personal items without her permission after his death. She has also stated that some of the items they are requesting are either not in her possession or are disputed in terms of ownership.

The list of items the Jacobs family is seeking includes three rifles, seven pistols, and one shotgun, a samurai sword, a Rolex and Garmin watch, a 1957 J45 Gibson guitar, a McPherson KOA guitar, a Steinway Grand Model M piano and a viola, a bin of baseball card albums, and school awards, as well as Jacobs’ work laptop, iPhone, and hard drives.

In response, Pickler’s attorney dismissed the contempt petition, saying, “There is simply no basis to support a contempt petition in this case.”

Conflicting Claims About Removed Items

The legal battle has also raised questions about what Jacobs’ parents may have already taken from Pickler’s home. Pickler claims that Sharon and Reed Jacobs removed personal belongings from her house after Kyle’s death without providing her with a complete list of what they took.

However, Jacobs’ parents counter that they only took items Pickler had set aside for them and acted with her knowledge and approval. Because of this, they argue they have no obligation to provide a detailed inventory of what was removed.

The court has yet to determine when this legal dispute will be resolved, leaving both sides locked in a tense standoff over the fate of Kyle Jacobs’ belongings.

Since her husband’s passing, Kellie Pickler has largely stayed out of the spotlight. However, in April 2024, she emotionally returned to the stage at the Ryman Auditorium, performing “The Woman I Am” during a Patsy Cline tribute concert.

She has also made significant changes in her personal life, selling the home where Jacobs died and relocating to a condo in downtown Nashville.

The legal battle over Jacobs’ estate remains unresolved, adding yet another chapter to a heartbreaking period in Pickler’s life.
