Whether you’re a country fan or not, we’re pretty sure you’ve already heard of country superstar Kellie Pickler. She rose to worldwide fame when she joined the fifth season of American Idol. Though she failed to bring home the bacon, coming in sixth place, she went on captivating the world with her voice that’s as sweet as honey. Pickler’s life has never been the same ever since!

1. She’s a native of Albemarle, North Carolina. 

Born Kellie Dawn Pickler on June 28, 1986, Pickler had a troublesome childhood. Her mother left her when she was only two to escape from an abusive relationship. She came back into Pickler’s life in 1995 and took custody of her. However, it did not go well. So, when she was 12, the court gave back Pickler to her grandparents – who raised her to adulthood. 

Meanwhile, Pickler’s father – who was in constant battle with drugs and alcohol – found himself occasionally in trouble with the law that he’s been in and out of jail.

2. She took the responsibility of looking after her younger siblings. 

In the absence of her parents, Pickler became too busy being a parent to her siblings. She revealed that she no longer had time to study and started learning how to be a homemaker at a young age.

3. She was a cheerleader. 

Pickler was a member of her middle school and high school’s cheerleading team. She graduated in 2004 from North Stanly High School.

4. She also joined a beauty contest. 

Pickler also tried her hand at being a beauty queen. She was once named Miss Stanly County.

5. She’s also an actress. 

In 2018, the country superstar made her acting debut in Hallmark Channel’s holiday film Christmas at Graceland – which featured holiday tunes made famous by Elvis Presley, with six of them Pickler recorded. It was also filmed at Presley’s legendary home, Graceland. 

Pickler went on starring in two more Hallmark movies.

6. She hosted her daytime talk show, as well. 

From 2017 to 2019, Pickler co-hosted Pickler & Ben together with New York City-based media personality Ben Aaron. The show earned five nominations from the Emmy Awards across its two-year stint.

7. She’s married to a country music songwriter. 

In 2011, Pickler eloped with Nashville songwriter, Kyle Jacobs, on the Caribbean Island of Antigua. The two have collaborated on several tunes together. This includes the title track to Pickler’s 2013 album, “The Woman I Am.”
