Travis Tritt’s wife, Theresa Nelson, has been by his side for the past twenty-three years. The two started dating after meeting at The Nashville Network while Nelson was videotaping the “Marty Party” with singer Marty Stuart.
“The next thing I knew, she was a really huge part of my life,” Tritt told the news outlet in 1996. Tritt and Nelson got hitched in 1997.
Let’s get to know more about the brunette beauty who has been an integral part of the country superstar’s life.
She Was A College Student And Model Before Meeting Travis Tritt
Born on July 12, 1972, and is currently 48 years old, Theresa Nelson used to be a Nashville-based college student and model before crossing paths with her famous husband.
Travis Tritt Wrote Her A Song Few Months After They Met
Travis Tritt once revealed that the song “More Than You’ll Ever Know” was written for Theresa Nelson just “three or four months” after they randomly met.
“When you first meet somebody, and you’re falling in love with them, if you’re like me, you want to spend every waking moment of your day with her, get to know her as much as you possibly can,” he said.
“We were able to do that for about the first three or four months we were together.”
She is Travis Tritt’s Third Wife
Before marrying Theresa Nelson, the country superstar was married to his high school sweetheart, Karen Ryon – a marriage that only lasted to two years. He later married Jodi Barnett, who was twelve years his senior but ended up in divorce shortly after signing with Warner Bros. in 1989. The divorce was finalized a month before his debut studio album Country Club was released in 1990.
After swearing off the likelihood of getting hitched once again and living up his bachelor status, Tritt’s plans of staying single forever were thwarted after meeting one extraordinary woman.
After being together almost every day for three months, they were apart for around two weeks; that’s when Tritt realized she couldn’t live without Nelson.
“I missed her much more than I thought I was going to — and much more than I wanted to let myself miss her,” Tritt said in his 1996 interview with the Chicago Tribune. “[The band and I] were out in the middle of East Bumble-somewhere, and my cellular phone wasn’t working, so I’d get off the stage and couldn’t call her, and I’d be wondering what she was up to and if she was feeling anywhere close to as miserable as I was.”
Ever since then, Tritt and Nelson have never been apart. In a separate interview with the Toledo Blade in 2001, Tritt said of meeting Nelson, “I thought, ‘This marriage thing I’ve tried twice, and I’m not very good at it.’ I’d given up on [marriage]. And that’s when I found out that love will find you.” Indeed, the third time was a charm for the country music artist.
She’s Now A Mother of Three
The couple’s happy and strong relationship has produced three beautiful children, daughter Tyler Reese and two sons Tristan James and Tarian Nathaniel.
Their daughter Tyler told Lake and Summer Style in 2015 about her plans to follow in her father’s footsteps as a country singer. Tyler said, “I love to get on stage and sing. I sing all the time. My brothers get annoyed with it, I’m sure.”
Nelson is quoted in the article speaking about her daughter’s prospective career, “She has wanted to do this since she was little, but we wanted to be sure she had a normal childhood. We let her dabble a little. When she was younger, Disney and Nickelodeon wanted her to do a show and stuff, but Travis wouldn’t let her do it. He figured if she were talented back then, she’d get even better as she got older.”
We can’t help but gush over Tritt and Nelson for achieving marital bliss and building a gorgeous family together. “Travis and I are best friends,” Theresa Nelson said. “We do everything together. People ask us, ‘How can you two spend that much time together? Don’t you get sick of each other?’ But we don’t. We’re buddies.”
