In 1962, Jim Reeves released a gospel album called “We Thank Thee.” The record contains twelve tracks that are a combination of gospel favorites and original Jim Reeves songs. This includes “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” “I’d Rather Have Jesus,” “Oh, Gentle Shepherd,” and, of course, the album‘s title track which Reeves wrote himself.

Thanking The Lord For His Work In Our Lives

Jim Reeves was probably the biggest male star to come out from the Nashville sound. His calm baritone voice and gentle velvet orchestration helped him earn the moniker Gentleman Jim – a fitting description of his character both on stage and off.

While he was known for his country and pop hits, he was also responsible for popularizing many gospel songs. And “We Thank Thee” is one of the most wonderful hymns he has ever written.

He sings it with almost impossibly easy grace, soothing his listeners as he gives thanks to the Lord for His kindness, the blessings He has bestowed, and His love that endures forever. After all, He provided us with more than we could ever imagine.

“We thank Thee for the trees. And the deep blue sea. Oh Lord, we thank Thee,” the hymn goes. Truly, the Lord graciously gives us great things of all kinds, and our natural response should be to thank Him specifically.

You can listen to “We Thank Thee” by Jim Reeves in the video below. It’s a little surprise as to why his religious songs have long been cherished by his fans worldwide.
