When it comes to country music’s biggest night, nobody forgets who walked away with the most trophies.

As of the 2024 ceremony, Chris Stapleton and Brooks & Dunn stand tied at the top with 19 career wins each. Stapleton did it in record time, grabbing Male Vocalist of the Year eight times since 2015 along with Single and Song of the Year victories. He has only been a CMA contender for less than a decade, yet he already sits in the same breath as legends who built their careers over thirty years. That kind of climb is unheard of, and it proves his soulful voice and stripped-down style hit a nerve in Nashville that shows no signs of letting up.

Brooks & Dunn‘s story is different. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn stacked their wins over decades, anchored by their 15-time domination of Vocal Duo of the Year. They took the crown so many times that the category basically belonged to them. When they snagged the trophy again in 2024, nearly two decades after their last win, it reminded fans that real country duos still carry weight. Their 19 wins stretch across generations of listeners, cementing them as the most successful pair in CMA history.

The conversation always circles back to George Strait, the “King of Country.” Depending on who you ask, his total CMA count ranges from 17 to 23 because different sources tally special awards and lifetime honors differently. What is clear is that he has three Entertainer of the Year titles, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and the record for the most CMA nominations of all time with 83. Strait may not sit on top of the win column anymore, but his shadow looms over every list.

Close behind is Vince Gill with 18 trophies, most of them collected during his dominant run in the 1990s. He stacked Male Vocalist wins like firewood and picked up Entertainer honors along the way. Alan Jackson is right behind him with 16, spanning decades of honky-tonk storytelling and big stage anthems. And of course, Garth Brooks owns the Entertainer of the Year category outright with seven victories, a record nobody has touched.

On the women’s side, Miranda Lambert leads the charge with 14 total CMA wins, the most of any female artist. She has seven Female Vocalist titles to her name, proving that grit and staying power still matter. Lainey Wilson, with her three consecutive Female Vocalist trophies between 2022 and 2024, is hot on her heels. If Lainey keeps stacking wins, it is not crazy to think she could eventually challenge Miranda’s record.

The CMA Awards are more than shiny hardware. They are snapshots of who carried the genre each year. Stapleton’s rapid-fire rise shows that authenticity can still bulldoze trends. Brooks & Dunn’s longevity proves that country duos never really fade away. George Strait’s numbers, no matter which version you believe, remind everyone that consistency matters as much as flash. And Miranda Lambert’s reign underscores that women who play their own game can still rule the board.

As the 2025 awards approach, the scoreboard could change again. Stapleton only needs one more win to break free of the tie and become the sole record holder. Brooks & Dunn are still active and could stretch their total further. And Lainey Wilson is chasing Lambert with every new nomination.

Country music history is being written one CMA night at a time. And whether you count the numbers fast like Stapleton or slow like Brooks & Dunn, the truth is simple. The trophies may sit on different shelves, but the legends all live under the same circle.
