There’s proud, and then there’s Reba McEntire watching her son fly a plane proud.

On July 22, Reba shared one of those moments that hits you right in the chest: a throwback photo of her cradling her son, Shelby Blackstock, as a baby, followed by a second shot of him standing tall next to the cockpit of a plane he just flew solo for the first time. Reba’s baby boy just took to the skies, and she’s officially one proud mama.

“Turned around to check on you, and realized you’re not my newborn anymore,” she wrote in the caption, set to the soundtrack of her 2005 hit “You’re Gonna Be.” The song, written for Shelby back when he was just a little guy, suddenly feels even more personal. “You’re gonna fly with every dream you chase,” she sings, and yeah, talk about literal.

Reba wrapped it up with a simple line that hit harder than a honky tonk heartbreak ballad: “Safe to say, he’s gonna fly.”

Now that’s how you do a mom moment, country style.

Fans went wild over the emotional post, many pointing out that the song choice wasn’t just perfect, it felt fated. Social media commenters were quick to jump in with reactions like “What a manifestation!” and “The tears are real.” The viral “You’re Gonna Be” trend had already been spreading like wildfire, with moms everywhere showing baby-to-grown-up transformations. But seeing Reba McEntire, country royalty, jump in with her own version? That’s the internet gold standard.

Shelby Blackstock, now 35, might’ve started out in the racing world, but clearly the skies were calling. And while Reba’s always been front and center in the music scene, she’s just as fierce when it comes to parenting. If you’ve followed their bond over the years, you already know this wasn’t just a “look at my kid” moment. It was a culmination of years of love, effort, and good old-fashioned tough parenting.

Because Reba doesn’t play when it comes to raising good humans.

Back in 2022, she told People exactly how she approached motherhood: “When we would play games or cards, I’d never let Shelby win. He wouldn’t have learned anything that way.” That’s the Reba way. Raise them tough, raise them kind, and teach them to win the right way. No gimmies, no shortcuts. Just solid values and unconditional love.

Shelby, for his part, is just as devoted to his mom. On Mother’s Day 2025, he posted: “Your love, strength, and wisdom shaped me, and I’m forever thankful.” Even his wife, Marissa, chimed in with a playful jab about Reba being a ruthless board game competitor. “You never let us win at Skyjo. Or Rummikub… or Phase 10…” Apparently, Reba’s competitive streak doesn’t stop at the stage.

And now? She’s got a licensed pilot for a son. From Checotah, Oklahoma, to the bright lights of Nashville, to raising a kid who now literally soars, Reba’s journey has always been grounded in something real. Whether it’s watching him take his first steps or his first solo flight, the heart behind it all is the same.

So while Reba might be judging The Voice or selling out shows across the country, she’s still just a farm girl at heart who raised her boy right. Shelby might be flying high, but it’s Reba who gave him the wings.

That’s some good country parenting, right there.
