Old Dominion Snatched a Record Rascal Flatts Held for Over a Decade

It finally happened. Old Dominion broke a record that most thought would stand forever.

At the 2025 ACM Awards, the Nashville-based five-piece won Group of the Year for the eighth consecutive time, officially surpassing Rascal Flatts‘ long-standing streak of seven straight wins in the category. What started 2018 as a surprise underdog victory has become a full-blown dynasty.

Old Dominion’s eight-year reign is now the longest consecutive run in the ACM Group of the Year category. As first noted in a stat shared by VegasInsider.com, the band had been tied with Rascal Flatts at seven straight wins. Old Dominion now stands alone at the top with this year’s trophy.

Before this year’s show, both bands were tied with seven consecutive wins. Then May 8 rolled around, and the streak was no longer shared. With their latest win, Old Dominion now owns the record outright, becoming the first group in ACM history to take home eight consecutive Group of the Year awards.

According to the Academy, “Old Dominion’s win for ACM Group of the Year marks their eighth consecutive win in the category, passing Rascal Flatts for the most consecutive wins in the category.” It is a milestone more than a decade in the making, and a moment that places Old Dominion squarely in the country music history books.

Rascal Flatts set the bar in the 2000s. During a peak run that helped define their era, they took home Group of the Year every year from 2003 through 2009. Their tight harmonies, massive chart success, and sold-out tours made them the benchmark for what a modern country group could be. For years, no one came close to touching that record.

Until Old Dominion showed up.

Their first win in 2018 came off the momentum of their sophomore album Happy Endings and hits like “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” and “Written in the Sand.” What followed was an unprecedented run that included career-defining hits like “One Man Band,” multiple Platinum albums, a viral resurgence on TikTok with “Neon Moon,” and arena tours with Kenny Chesney and their own No Bad Vibes Tour.

Each year, they kept stacking wins. Each year, they kept topping charts. By 2024, they had tied Rascal Flatts. By 2025, they passed them.

The significance wasn’t lost on the band. In interviews leading up to the show, frontman Matthew Ramsey reflected on how surreal the streak has become. “It’s very humbling to have those things continue to happen in your career,” he said. Earlier in the week, the group joked that if they won again, the trophy might end up behind the bar at their new Nashville hangout, Odie’s.

The 60th ACM Awards made the moment even more poetic. Rascal Flatts were in the building, nominated again, and even performing as part of a nostalgic segment. The Oak Ridge Boys, legends in their own right, presented the award. When Old Dominion was announced, the crowd rose for a standing ovation. The moment was big. The meaning behind it was even bigger.

Old Dominion now holds eight straight wins. That is not just a hot streak. That is an era. The group has made it clear they don’t take any of it for granted. But they’re not slowing down either. The group is still moving forward with a new album in rotation, more tour dates on the horizon, and millions still streaming their songs.

They didn’t just match Rascal Flatts. They outlasted them.

Eight years. Eight trophies. One new record. And the run might not be over yet.
