A Sincere Promise in Lonestar’s “I’m Already There”

Released in March 2001, “I’m Already There” by Lonestar became one of their top hits again.

The track is written by the band’s lead singer, Richie McDonald, together with Frank J. Myers and Gary Barker. It was the band’s seventh #1 song and their fifth consecutive chart-topper.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gave a gold certification to the song for selling over 500,000 copies.

Meaning Behind the Song

“I’m Already There” is among Lonestar’s songs that will have you grabbing a tissue while listening to it.

Lead singer Richie McDonald explained how he came up with the song. His son, Rhett, asked him on the phone when he was coming home again. When he ended the call, he wanted to cry and think about the times his child missed him and vice versa.

He thought he physically wasn’t there, but mentally, he was. The idea came when he kept thinking, ‘I’m already there’ while sitting in a hotel room in Southern California.

The man in Lonestar‘s “I’m Already There” reassures his family that he is there, maybe not in the flesh, but in their minds and hearts.

Despite his wife and kids missing him and him missing his family, he assures them of his presence in many ways. He is the shadow in their home, the imaginary friend, the beat in their hearts, and, importantly, in their prayers.

“I’m Already There” by Lonestar is somehow a comforting song because of the reassurance it gives. Though we might miss our loved ones greatly because they have a necessary appointment to attend to, we are given peace at the fact that they never even left us and that they’re always in our hearts.
