Luke Bryan’s Play It Again was a fan-favorite ever since. According to him, from the day that they released his 2013 album Crash the Party, it was the most downloaded non-single. Even during live performances on the road, the song beats all his prior number one songs. Critics also gave very positive reviews on the song, citing the lyrics which invoke the emotions that really connect and hit with young people. Not to mention Bryan’s charming delivery of the song.

Play It Again was about a man who approached the girl at a party, and when the girl’s favorite song played, she asked him to dance with her. When the song was finished, they both exclaimed to Play It Again. He drove her home that night and when they went out on a date the next week, he played the song on his guitar.

The song was penned by Dallas Davidson and Ashley Gorley, who also wrote another single in the same album titled That’s My Kind of Night with Chris DeStefano. The big country hit of the summer was kind of written backwards according to Davidson.

They first started with a verse, then worked their way to the chorus. Then he and Ashley somehow got into the hook at the same time, and that was how the line Oh my God, this is my song came to be. They were supposed to use the hook as the title, but when Ashley sang Play it again, play it again, play it again, it stuck.

Luke Bryan made history when the song skyrocketed to number 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in 2014. That was because the top 2 song on the chart was Florida Georgia Line’s This Is How We Roll, wherein he was featured, making him the first-ever artist to hold the top two spots simultaneously in the chart’s 24-year history.

Luke Bryan’s Play It Again was his eighth number one song and is certified six times platinum by the RIAA. You can watch the music video directed by Michael Monaco below. And also, make sure to listen to other Luke Bryan songs!
