In 2019, Texas-based singer Hannah Kay wowed the audiences and judges when she covered Loretta Lynn’s greatest hit, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” in the most country way possible during her blind audition performance for The Voice season 17.

The 18-year-old Hannah immediately grabbed Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson‘s attention. So, as soon as she hit those high notes, the two judges went on to push the I Want You button, securing Hannah’s place in the show. After performing, the two judges tried their best to convince Hannah to pick them as her coach.

Hannah sang the song in the old country style, which is not out there anymore, at least that is what most people think – except for Blake, who thinks that the flare is still out there, but it is not celebrated the way it was before. That is why Blake wants Hannah to be the medium to spread the old country feel back to the mainstream.

Hannah did mention that she already had a coach in mind before her audition. Since Shelton has been her favorite since she was six, she can’t help but choose him as her coach. Aside from that, there is no denying that Shelton’s sweet words arguably made her pick his team.

Aside from The Voice judges, the original singer of the song, Loretta Lynn, also took notice of Hannah’s amazing performance. In a post she shared on her Facebook account, Lynn went on to express her support and enthusiasm for the young rising country artist, stating that she is honored that Hannah picked the song that means the most to her for her audition. Lynn also went on to send off her best wishes, hoping that Hannah would make it to the top.
