Country legend Dwight Yoakam is trading the honky-tonk for heartfelt giving with a guitar in hand and a cause close to home.
Just ahead of Grammy week, Dwight Yoakam is stepping into the spotlight for something far bigger than gold trophies and red carpets. On January 28, he will headline the first-ever “Dwight Yoakam and Friends Rockin’ for the Kids at The Roxy,” a one-night-only benefit concert for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The event is set to light up the legendary Roxy Theatre with Yoakam’s unmistakable twang, a powerhouse lineup of special guests, and a whole lot of purpose.
Joining him on stage will be a collection of heavy-hitters, including Charley Crockett, Marcus King, Lukas Nelson, and even more artists yet to be announced. The night will be hosted by director and producer McG and presented in collaboration with actor Billy Bob Thornton. But behind the spotlight and star-studded guest list lies a personal story that makes this show more than just another stop on the road.

Dwight and his wife Emily had their lives turned upside down during the height of the pandemic when they found themselves walking the halls of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with their newborn son Dalton Loren Yoakam. It was a time filled with uncertainty, fear, and quiet strength, one that reshaped how they viewed the world.
“When you walk the halls of a children’s hospital, it changes you. It puts all of life in a very graphic perspective,” Dwight said. “As Emily and I were there with our own child, we saw so many families facing battles no one hopes to ever have to endure. And while we were fortunate to not face those challenges, that experience never left us.”

So the Yoakams decided to give back in a way only they could, by using music to raise hope, awareness, and crucial funds for CHLA. What started as a conversation between Dwight, Emily, and Dr. Mark Krieger, the hospital’s Surgeon in Chief, grew into a full-fledged mission. The idea was to create a yearly gathering of musicians who could bring their talents to a cause that hits home for so many.
Rockin’ for the Kids was born out of gratitude but forged in the fire of real-life experience. It is not just a concert, it is a statement, one that says country music’s biggest hearts still believe in showing up for the folks who need it most. Whether it is the kid in a hospital bed or the family waiting anxiously in the hallway, this night is for them.
And if anyone can bring the house down while lifting spirits up, it is Dwight Yoakam. Known for blending Bakersfield swagger with honky-tonk soul, Dwight is no stranger to bending genres and breaking barriers. Now he is doing it for the kids, and he is bringing his friends with him to turn The Roxy into a night of memories, meaning, and music that matters.

As Krieger put it, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Mr. Yoakam and his wife on what is sure to be a truly special evening. We are grateful for their passion and vision in bringing this night to life.”
So mark your calendars. On January 28, the boots will be tapping, the guitars will be wailing, and every note will carry more than just melody. It will carry hope straight from the heart of country music royalty.
