In 1989, American country singer Don Williams released his hit single “Old Coyote Town” as part of his album “Traces.” Co-written by Larry Boone together with Paul Nelson and Gene Nelson, the song also appeared on Boone’s 1988 album Swingin’ Doors, Sawdust Floors. 

Upon its release, “Old Coyote Town ” immediately climbed up the charts, peaking at no. 5 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) and no. 24 on the Canada Country Tracks, making it one of Don Williams’s greatest hits.   

In this heartfelt song, Don Williams effortlessly captivates listeners with his resonant voice, which makes this a track that demands attention. But that is not the only thing that made this song such a hit to many.

Meaning Behind the Song

“Old Coyote Town” is a song that takes listeners on a trip down memory lane. It’s a country ballad that tells the story of the everyday things that happened in a small, forgotten town in Texas.
