Even cowboys need a breather, and Chase Rice just proved it.
After more than a decade of nonstop touring, the North Carolina native and country hitmaker is pressing pause for the first time in 13 years. Chase Rice took to Instagram with a raw and reflective message to fans, saying what many artists are too afraid to admit. He is exhausted. Not creatively empty or ungrateful, just tired from the grind and needing a minute to find his footing again.
“I’ve been touring for 13 years, and I’ve lived a dream far greater than I could’ve ever expected,” he wrote. “This isn’t a goodbye thing or anything like that, but I’m exhausted.”
The message struck a chord with fans who have followed his journey from smoky dive bars to packed-out arenas. Chase has built a career the hard way. From co-writing Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” to scoring his own Number Ones with songs like “Eyes On You”, “Ride”, and “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” he’s lived a life few can relate to, but even fewer can handle for as long as he has.
But there comes a point when even the toughest need to step off the stage and step back into life.
“I haven’t been able to be myself on stage in quite a while and really enjoy music and why I got into it in the first place,” he admitted. “I love songs, I love living them, hearing stories from other people, and figuring out how to put that life into music. After 13 years, it’s finally beat me up to the point where I need to step away for a while.”
That kind of honesty doesn’t come with a PR team’s stamp. That’s a man looking in the mirror and realizing the music means more when it comes from a place of truth. And right now, Rice is saying he needs to live a little more life before he can keep writing about it.
“I won’t be touring this year,” he continued. “And it wasn’t even really a decision. It was something I know I just have to do for myself.”
Fans will still get to see him at a few select shows, but don’t expect the same high-octane, nonstop schedule that’s defined his last 13 years. This time, it’s about slowing down, reconnecting, and finding joy in the music again. And maybe, just maybe, coming back stronger.
“To my band and crew, I love y’all. You’ve seen me at my worst, yet you still love me back like I’ve lived my best,” he said. “I hope we can all get together in the coming years and get back to enjoying life on the road again.”
And to the fans, the ones who’ve packed out shows, screamed every word, and stood by him through every evolution, Chase offered nothing but love and gratitude.
“You have truly made a dream of mine come true,” he wrote. “I hope this year brings new experiences for me to put into songs that will make y’all happy. Until then, thanks for the ride.”
So no, this is not a goodbye. It is a well-earned pause. And knowing Chase Rice, when he does come back, it will not be half-hearted. It will be louder, deeper, and built on something real.
