It all started with a dream. Like most of us, Blake Shelton dreamed of becoming someone someday. And, he worked his way up to turn that dream into a reality. Today, he’s one of the most renowned artists in the industry who has placed numerous No. 1 songs on the chart and received multiples accolades from various organizations. To help celebrate the birthday of the country music star and The Voice coach, let’s reminisce his startling journey to success once more.
Being an Oklahoman native, Shelton began establishing himself as an entertainer in his hometown. By the age of 16, he has acquired widespread attention by performing in various bars located in his place. Also, at this age, he won the Denbo Diamond Award which is the top award for young entertainers in Oklahoma. From this experience, Shelton has proven that he’s an achiever even before he moved to Nashville. Yet, it was also this primary success that enticed him to become a professional songwriter. Hence, merely two weeks after graduating from high school in 1994, he moved to Nashville to pursue his dream.
Shelton didn’t waste any time the moment he arrived in Nashville. Right away, he began selling songs he had written to different musical publishing houses. This led him to land a solo recording contract with Giant Records. Shortly after his debut in the music scene, he scored his first No. 1 hit on the chart with “Austin” in 2001. Since then, the singer has produced a string of charting singles and albums including those that reached the charts’ top.
In 2010, he was at the pinnacle of success having acquired multiple awards at the Grand Ole Opry. These include an Academy of Country Music award, a Country Music Association Award, and CMT Music award. The following year, 2011, was even brighter for Shelton as he reached milestones both in his career and personal life. This year, Shelton debuted as a judge on The Voice, a position he still holds at present. Then, he released his first Billboard 200 No. 1 album which also produced three No. 1 songs, namely “Honey Bee,” “God Gave Me You” and “Drink on It.” It was also in this year when he married his longtime girlfriend and fellow country music star, Miranda Lambert.
Again, the “I’ll Name the Dogs” singer shined during the 2013 CMA Awards gaining two honors. He won the Male Vocalist of the Year award and his Based on a True Story… was named Album of the Year. For two consecutive years, CMA conferred him the Male Vocalist of the Year award proving his musical prowess. And while he’s much more focused on his coaching career, Shelton still finds time to record new albums that appeal to audiences. His most recent releases, If I’m Honest (2016) and Texoma Shore (2017), were well-received by his fans.
While Shelton’s marriage with Lambert ended in 2015, the former has found romance with fellow The Voice judge and singer Gwen Stefani. Additionally, People magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive late last year.
