Everett Bounds was struck by Caroline Alexis the first time he saw her.
“When I first saw Caroline, I thought, ‘Holy moly!’ because she’s just so beautiful,” he told the cameras on The Voice.
The two met at the Blind Auditions and went on a few dates. Then their coach, Riley Green, paired them in a Battle on Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” and only one of them could win it.
Both singers came to Team Riley the same way. Caroline auditioned with Rascal Flatts’ “Take Me There,” Everett sang Eddie Rabbitt’s “Drivin’ My Life Away,” and both times Riley was the only coach who turned. The Battle Rounds began with the Monday, October 12 episode, and this one asked a first-time coach to choose between two people who had been going out together.
Riley Green Said the Battle Would Come Down to Who Made the Love Song Believable
Loretta and Conway took “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” to No. 1 in 1973, singing as two lovers on opposite sides of the Mississippi River. They were one of country music’s great duet teams, and they were never a couple off the stage. This time, the two people singing it had actually been on dates.

Riley told the cameras the Battle would come down to who bought into the character in the song best and made it believable for everybody listening. Everett had an answer for that.
“Singing this song to Caroline is going to be very easy for me,” he said.
Caroline was more careful. She said she wanted to take things slow and keep getting to know each other, though she added that he has a lot of qualities she respects as a person.
Riley Green Called It a Tough Choice and Picked Everett Bounds
Kelly Clarkson said it felt like a throwback and that she loved it, and Riley told his two singers what it meant to him.
“For one, that was a lot of fun. Y’all turned the place into a honky tonk. That’s the first time it’s felt like home to me,” he said.
Adam Levine said he was leaning toward Everett and believed he had improved since his audition, and then he put it his own way.
“I think I just fell in love with Everett,” Levine said.
Riley called the decision tough and chose Everett, saying he is natural in a fun, up-tempo, traditional country song and that his team really needs that.
Loretta and Conway sang about two lovers with a river between them. Caroline and Everett sang it as two people who had really been dating, and only one of them moved on for Team Riley. Before the Battle, Caroline had said, “We’ll see what happens between us afterwards.”
