Just like any non-celebrity who shot to fame with their celebrity partners, there’s not much information about Annie’s childhood and family. The only information available was that Annie D’Angelo was born on August 27, 1956, and some sources say that she is of Native American ancestry and part Italian.
Before she met Willie Nelson, Annie was a prominent makeup artist in Hollywood. She started her career back in the ’80s in the movie and television industry. Her earliest known stint was with the 1984 sex comedy film Bachelor Party starring Tom Hanks, Adrian Zmed, William Tepper, and Tawny Kitaen as a makeup artist.
After that, she worked on the set of the 1986 film Stagecoach top billed by Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. That was their first meeting.
In 1987, she worked as a makeup supervisor for the teen comedy film Hot Pursuit starring John Cusack and Robert Loggia. During the same year, she also joined the makeup crew of the neo-noir mystery film The Rosary Murders starring Donald Sutherland.

As they say, behind a successful man, there stands a woman. Annie D’Angelo may be Willie Nelson’s fourth wife, but she is definitely the last for the legendary country music artist. The two first met in 1986 on the set of Stagecoach and dated shortly after that. Nelson had ridden through three marriages before her, but that time around, he found his perfect match.
After five years, the couple decided to tie the knot on September 16, 1991, at St. Alouin Church in Nashville, Tennessee. But before deciding to marry, the two welcomed their two sons into their lives. On December 25, 1988, Annie gave birth to Lukas Autry Nelson in Austin, Texas.
And just like his dad, he had the talent in music and he started touring with his dad early, playing the rhythm guitar for the band. In 2000, he started his professional music career and is now an award-winning film composer. Not to mention that he also has a band named Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real.

Willie Nelson confessed that he is quite temperamental and hard to live with, but Annie adapted easily, and they did okay. In a 2012 interview, when he was asked if Annie D’Angelo is the real love of his life, he jokingly answered that she was at the moment. But he quickly added that she had been with him through thick and thin and there was nothing that one can ask more than that.
In 1990, Willie Nelson faced a $16.7 million tax case with the IRS, one of the most high-profile tax cases in the history of country music. When the feds seized all of his properties, including his Country Club and Recording Studio, Annie was his support system. She helped her get back on his feet.
On Christmas Day of 1991, Nelson’s son Billy from his first wife Martha Matthews committed suicide. He was found dead in his home in Davidson County, Tennessee hanging from a cord. Willie Nelson faced that loss with his wife, Annie.
