In 1983, George Strait earned his second No. 1 hit on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, thanks to “A Fire I Can’t Put Out.” It was released as the fourth and final single off his album Strait from the Heart.

It also achieved the same success in the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart, ranking No. 2.

A Song About A Man Struggling To Let A Woman Go

Written by Darryl Staedtler, “A Fire I Can’t Put Out” tells the story of a man who can’t get the memory of a woman out of his mind. He knows he needs to move on and turn his attention to someone new, but he’s having a hard time letting go of the feeling that felt so good when he was with her. He doesn’t have the strength to put out the fire that burns for his former lover.

While the song was painful enough, we’ve dug in a precious gem for you to relish! In the footage we’ve found, you will see a young George Strait sweeping everyone’s feet off the ground with his performance of “A Fire I Can’t Put Out” on the popular country variety show Hee Haw. We’re so lucky that such an old clip made its way online for all of us to enjoy. You’ll get to see that he was indeed born to be a country star!

Blessed with good looks and a bright personality, Strait has dominated the country music scene since the early 1980s – and he has been consistent ever since. He has a music career that spans more than three decades, and counting.

So, make sure you watch where he started in the video below. Here’s the King of Country‘s performance of “A Fire I Can’t Put Out.” It’s a treat you should not miss!
