Remember The Time When Shania Twain and Billy Currington Had A “Party for Two”? 

On July 2023, Shania Twain asked Billy Currington on stage at the Faster Horses Festival in Brooklyn, Michigan, “So Billy, let me ask you one more time. Billy, are you ready for a party?” She then asked the audience if they were all set, too, before going for a high kick to start their performance of their Top 10 sultry hit duet, “Party for Two.” 

The two first performed the song in November 2004 on Good Morning America. Two decades later, it was still as fun and catchy as ever!

“Party for Two” was written by Shania Twain and her then-husband and producer Robert John “Mutt Lange.” It was included in her first Greatest Hits album in two versions: the first one was a pop mix featuring the lead singer of the pop rock band Sugar Ray, Mark McGrath, and the second was the country version with Currington. The latter version earned Twain her sixteenth and final top 10 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart. 

Meaning Behind the Song

In her decades-long career run, Twain has had a long list of duet partners. But one of our favorite Shania Twain duet songs and one of her most successful ones as well was with Billy Currington. 

The song opens with a fun and sexy phone conversation between the two. Twain goes and invites Currington to a party, to which he responds, “Nah I don’t think so, baby.” She then playfully persuades him, telling him that it was going to be lots of fun. And then as they transition to the first verse, Currington still seems hesitant. 

But when Twain tells him that the party will be hot, his mind starts slowly changing. And by the end of the verse, he seems to have come around to the idea and asked her what he should wear. She then goes for the catch: “I’ll tell you that it / It doesn’t matter what you wear / ‘Cause it’s only gonna be, uh / You and me there.”

As the song progresses, the heat level goes higher as they think of all the things they’re going to do with each other. And finally, in the outro, Twain tells him it was great and Currington replies with an invite to do it again.
