Country music legend Naomi Judd – one half of the mother-daughter music duo, The Judds – has died Saturday (April 30, 2022) near Nashville, Tennessee. She was 76.

However, no further details have been given about the cause of her death. A statement from Naomi Judd’s publicist also said that her fellow singer and husband of more than 30 years, Larry Strickland, will not be making any further statements and is requesting privacy as they grieve during this heartbreaking time.

Meanwhile, Judd’s daughters – Wynonna and Ashley Judd – blamed their beautiful mother’s death on “the disease of mental illness,” adding that they are “shattered” and “navigating profound grief.”

In 2016, the Grammy Award-winning singer graced the morning news program, Good Morning America, where she revealed her diagnosis of severe depression and anxiety. That same year, Judd wrote a book called “River of Time: My Descent into Depression and How I Emerged with Hope,” where she detailed her battle against the disease.

Fellow Country Musicians Have Paid Their Respects To Naomi Judd

Naomi Judd and her daughter, Wynonna Judd, started singing together as a country music duo in the early 1980s. Some of the most popular The Judds songs are “Love Can Build a Bridge,” “(Grandpa) Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Ol’ Days,” and “Mama, He’s Crazy.” Throughout their career, The Judds earned five Grammy Awards and had more than ten No. 1 singles.

In 2011, The Judds rounded off what was billed as a farewell tour, but announced earlier this year an arena tour to begin in September – this would have been their first tour together in over a decade. The duo was also scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Fellow country musicians then took to social media to mourn the loss of a legendary singer. This includes Carrie Underwood, who wrote, “Country music lost a true legend.” Billy Ray Cyrus also shared a photo of himself and Judd in honor of the musical legacy the Kentucky-born singer had shared.

Indeed, Naomi Judd will be missed by many.
