If you’re clueless about the life lessons you need to teach your kids, then we suggest you listen to Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” hit track for some pointers. It’s not every day you get to hear a song that’s not about love, breakup, friendship, or death. Now, you’ll get to know why this piece is included on the greatest hits of the country icon.

“Humble And Kind” Message

Singer-songwriter Lori McKenna had her five children in mind when she penned Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” in 2016. She wanted to write a song of message and life lessons to her kids, who had an age range from 10 to 25 years old. The talented composer recalled the day she wrote the song without thinking about the outcome on the charts.

McKenna envisioned nothing but a heartfelt tune when she wrote the song. She took her kids to school and, after going back home, sat down at the dining room table with her coffee. It’s not an easy task to be a parent, so she wanted to give her children the things she wants to tell her kids with her husband, Gene.

Described as a “selfish little poem of a mother of five,” McKenna touch-base with the thoughts of parents who want to teach their kids some life lessons but don’t want to sound preachy. She remembered how each verse was written solely for her and her kids and no one else. Yet after looking at what she had composed, she felt compelled to share it with the rest of the world through the famous country superstar Tim McGraw.

She sent it to McGraw, he made a subtle melodic change, released the song, and the rest is a chart-topping, record-breaking history.

Commercial Performance

Like any other Tim McGraw songs, “Humble and Kind” took home many awards. The song bagged the “Best Country Song” at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, “Song of the Year” at the CMA Awards, “Video of The Year” at the CMT Music Awards, and “Country Song of the Year” at the American Music Awards all in 2016. Unsurprisingly, it has been marked as a certified platinum and peaked at number one spot in the United States and Canada country music charts.

Furthermore, McGraw and McKenna released a book with the same title on May 17, 2016, at the time of graduation season, published by Hachette Books. The book features lyrics, illustrations, an introduction by McGraw, and an epilogue by McKenna. Proceeds of the book were pledged to the Neighbor’s Keeper Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
