Losing a family member may be one of the hardest things to get through in life, especially if it is someone you were close with.

Chris Stapleton’s “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore” is a heartbreaking song that talks about the life of a father and what he goes through every day before passing away. It is a challenging song to listen to, and with that, huge props to Chris, who bravely recorded the song despite what he was going through.

The track is from Chris’s debut album, Traveller, released in May 2015. The album garnered several awards, including Album of the Year from the CMA Awards, a nomination from the Grammys, and Best Country Album. It also won Top Country Album from the Billboard Music Award in 2016 and 2017.

Meaning Behind the Song

“Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore” is one of Chris Stapleton’s songs that hits close to the heart when you have lost a loved one or a member closest to your heart.

Chris wrote the track as a tribute to his father during the 2000s, but he only recorded it after his dad passed away in 2013. Chris said he finished the song in just 10 minutes while waiting for his wife to get ready. The piece was completed in 2005, yet he chose to record it after his dad passed away because of the weight that his grief carried.

The lyrics to Chris Stapleton‘s “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore” mentions praying to God despite the struggles of everyday life. The father, in the song, prays even though they are going through bad times. He thanks God for the food every time they eat and that everything is right whenever they say grace before meals. The father also prays for his children at the end of the day, even though they do not get along sometimes.

The sacrifices and the undying love of a parent for a child touch the listeners’ hearts as they relate to the track too much.
