Diplo and Morgan Wallen’s “Heartless” is a Platinum-certified country crossover! And you can tell it’s one of the best collaborations in country music.
The collaboration came into existence when the American DJ-producer was on a search for fresh material to include on his Thomas Wesley project. Diplo then met up with Nashville-based manager Seth England – whose clients include big names such as Chris Lane, Florida Georgia Line, and of course, Morgan Wallen – to ask for possible collaborators.
England then sent Diplo a number of songs, which includes a track Wallen was working on – the one that ended up Diplo liking the best. Wallen and Diplo recorded “Heartless” and released it in 2019 as a part of Diplo’s album, Chapter 1: Snake Oil. It was Diplo’s first country project ever wherein he teamed up with several different artists.
Interestingly, the two superstars did not meet until filming the music video; Wallen and Diplo actually recorded their parts separately. And yet, the result was more than incredible. The first time you’ll listen to it, you’ll know that it’s a smash hit. Wallen’s raspy voice set against effects-heavy guitar harmonies unfolding at its pace was highlighted all through the song. And when it reached its chorus, the booming trap beat heightened the tension throughout this one-sided relationship.

In 2020, Diplo dropped a remake of “Heartless,” featuring pop star Julia Michaels playing off Wallen with a powerful sense of fed-up frustration. They were trading verses and blending harmonies over the hook-heavy chorus – and it’s nothing but a spark of boldness.
Meanwhile, during the recent Super Bowl party, Diplo was spotted spinning “Heartless” – and the crowd loved it even though the country superstar was lately booted from just about every platform. Indeed, the plays for Morgan Wallen’s songs keep coming.
