Nothing is more exciting than two generations of artists performing on one big stage. Flashback to the night of April 7, 2019, Country music legend George Strait and Grammy Award-winning country singer Miranda Lambert unite for a moving performance of Strait’s 2001 hit “Run” at the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards.

Written by Anthony Smith and Tony Lane, “Run” was originally released on September 24, 2001, for Strait’s twenty-first studio album, The Road Less Traveled. It climbed to No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart at the time and made it to Rolling Stone’s The 10 Best George Strait Songs.

When Strait performed it with Lambert during the ACM Awards, the song became even more special. With his cowboy hat and black blazer on, Strait stood side by side with Lambert, wearing her red cowgirl dress, cooling up the evening with a moving duet. The neon-light cityscape conveys the message of two love birds longing to reconnect, separated by great distances. The duo exchanged glances and sang, “Find a truck and fire it up; Lean on the gas and off the clutch. Leave Dallas in the dust. I need you in a rush, so baby, run.”

The simplicity of the duo’s performance, paired with the combined sound of instruments such as the steel guitar, mandolin, piano, and delicate drums, shows the audience how country music is made. The two had already won over the hearts of the crowd the minute they stepped foot on the stage.

On the same night, Strait presented the Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award to Jason Aldean, while Lambert attended with two nominations, including Music Event of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.

These two aren’t strangers to performing on stage together. The duo has already performed during Straits’ 2014 concert at the AT&T stadium, singing “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirl” and “Run.”

And once again, watch George Strait and Miranda Lambert reimagine a romantic story through their splendid performance of the classic tune “Run.”
