Don Gibson’s Final No.1 Hit: “Woman (Sensuous Woman)”

Don Gibson

From 1957 to the mid of 1970’s, Don Gibson rose to stardom. He is one of the best country artists of his generation. Gibson was known for his singles “Sweet Dreams,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” and “Oh! Lonesome Me.” Also, he is one of the greatest songwriters. He wrote songs for himself and other country artists, too. Gibson has a smooth vocal style that was pleasing to the ear. But most of all, he has the ruggedly handsome looks that the ladies enjoyed.

Let’s recollect the memories of the one and only Don Gibson through his final No.1 hit called “Woman (Sensuous Woman).” Rest assured, the song will bring the good feels of the country in the past. For the ladies out there, this song is for you.

Woman (Sensuous Woman)…

Gary S. Paxton was the songwriter behind the words and lyrics of “Woman (Sensuous Woman).” It was part of his album under the same name. Also, it was released in June 1972. The song reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and was Gibson’s final top charting hit of his career.

“Woman (Sensuous Woman)” stayed at No.1 for a week and a total of 16 weeks on the country charts.

Due to its massive and positive response, other artists recorded their versions and covers. They were Ray Charles, who released his on his 1984 album “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind.” Also, Mark Chesnutt, recorded his cover in 1994 which peaked at No.21 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

The Lyrics…

Woman, sensuous woman

You control the world I’m living in

Woman, sensuous woman

Release my body and let me live again

Step by step you taught me easy lovin’

Night by night you caught me in your web

My self-control was overruled by passion

Now I couldn’t see the heartache up ahead

Woman, sensuous woman

You control the world I’m living in

Woman, sensuous woman

Release my body and let me live again

Someone true is waiting I should be with her

And she doesn’t know I crave your ecstasy

But many hearts will break if I don’t conquer

This lustful spell you’ve cast over me
