The Billboard’s ‘Annual Women in Music Event’ will be honoring Dolly Parton with the ‘2020 Hitmaker Award.’ The annual music awards celebrate the achievements of the greatest female artists in the music industry.

Billboard executives recognize the numerous work of Parton and the way she has inspired other female artists for decades. She is the living paradigm of the women of country music today. Making almost the same number of hit songs as his male counterparts while never forgetting to inspire female artists to achieve makes Parton the best pick to win this year’s ‘Hitmaker Award.’

The 2020 Hitmaker Award

The Hitmaker Award is given to artists who have significantly impacted their culture throughout the span of their careers. Previous award winners include Charli CXX. Several other female artists that will also be acknowledged this year include Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, and Chloe X Halle.

Other Titles

Dubbed as the most prestigious among other awards, the “Woman of the Year” title will be given to rapper Cardi B.

2020 marks the 15th year that the awards have been held. The rich history of the Billboard’s annual “Women in Music” event has recognized great names in the music industry that includes the first-ever “Woman of the Year” Reba McEntire which was first handed out in 2007. Taylor Swift won the title twice in 2011 and 2014, which makes Swift the only artist yet to receive the award more than once.

The co-creators of the #The SHowMustBePaused movement, Brianna Agyeman, and Jamila Thomas will receive the 2020 “Executive of the Year” award. The movement was established after the death of George Floyd

Women of Country on Billboard

Female country music stars have never been neglected in the music industry. In the 15 year history of the annual event, several other country stars have been recognized as among the greatest that the music industry has to offer. The likes of Kelsea Ballerini, Brandi Carlie, Shania Twain, Maren Morris, and Kacey Musgraves are among those who have won and took home trophies in the past years including the “Legend of the Year” Loretta Lynn in 2015.

The 2020 Women of Music event will be featuring singer, songwriter, actor, director, and model Teyana Taylor as the host for this year. Unfortunately, the event will still be done without live audiences and will be held virtually. The show will air beginning at 8 PM ET on December 10, 2020.
