Dallas Smith is the Entertainer of the Year

When Smith took the stage, he credits his mother for getting this far and convincing his father to lend him money to make his earliest recordings.

“My mom doesn’t come to these things very often. It’s been a while but my mom kicked the ‘you know what’ out of cancer this year. If it wasn’t for my mom I would never be here period for many, many reasons.”

He would also say that his title as Entertainer of the Year award reflects what you can do if you apply yourself.

“I would skip school because I would be so afraid to make that presentation in school and I’d fail a class. This is what happens when you get the right team behind you and you push yourself, you challenge yourself. You overcome those things.”

Reigning CCMA Male Artist of the Year Smith, and Billboard’s record-smasher, the Old Town Road sensation Billy Ray Cyrus are hosts for the 2019 CCMA Awards.

“I’m thrilled to be co-hosting this year’s CCMA Awards with Billy Ray Cyrus – he’s a legend! This is going to be a great time and I can’t wait to celebrate country’s biggest night with everyone.”

It was Alberta-based singer Brett Kissel led the male nominations with five nods, while Tenille Townes Lindsay Ell is tied for most female nominations with four acknowledgments each.

Smith is a Canadian country music singer, songwriter, and the current lead singer for the hard rock band Default. At the end of 2012, Mediabase named Smith the most played Canadian country act and number eight overall at the format. In 2013, he was nominated for Male Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Album of the Year.

He is a multiple JUNO and CCMA Award-winning entertainer, as well as one of the most celebrated artists in Canadian country music. He is the only Canadian country artists in the Nielsen BDS era to have seven number-one singles, including four consecutive chart-toppers from the same album.

This year, he is nominated for four 2019 CCMA Awards, namely the Apple Music Fans’ Choice, MNP Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
