If you are a Blake Shelton fan, you might know who he got his immense talent from. But, in case you did not know, he has acquired such great talent from his mother, Dorothy Shackleford. Not only are they great singers, but they are also talented songwriters. In fact, they even conceived a Christmas song together. The kind of relationship that Shelton shares with his mom is what most men nowadays are missing. The mother-son collaboration on such a masterpiece of a song proves that men will always be “mama’s boys.”
“Time for Me to Come Home:” Blake & Mom’s Duet Song
In 2012, Shelton teamed up with his mother for a one-of-a-kind duet. They both performed the song that they wrote together called “Time for Me to Come Home.”
Back then, Shelton filmed his first ever Christmas special titled Blake Shelton’s Not-So-Family Christmas. During that time, he invited his mom to join him on stage for a celebration of the season.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Shelton said:
“It’s actually about how it’s not Christmas unless you’re with your mama… She buys me cool stuff.”
Immediately, he added:
“The icing on the cake was having the opportunity to perform with my mom, a song we co-wrote together.”
The said Christmas special ran for almost an hour. Also, it included performances from different fellow country artists including Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson. Moreover, special appearances were also seen such as that of Christina Aguilera, Jay Leno, and Larry the Cable Guy.
Going back to the song, “Time for Me to Come Home” is one of the songs featured on Shelton’s 2013 holiday album, Cheers, It’s Christmas.
Aside from being a part of the album’s commercial success, the tune was also meaningful. In fact, it inspired Shelton’s mom to write a novel with the same title. She teamed up with talented author Travis Thrasher during the whole writing process.
